Live Project-Over!

Live project panels... there are 6 other A0 panels that are not visible from this angle. A closure to the Italy chapter. Voila! The tower in an hour. Teamed up with Ross.
Playing with pasta at the workshop. Glad it's all over. Getting psyched up for Brussels. This guy from Athens has one weird sense of humour. He makes comments that are so hilarious but he says it with a matter-of-fact look that you want to burst out laughing but you can't. Views from the 17th Floor of the Arts Tower. It's frosty today. When I get bored at lectures, I simple stare out.

The well in the Masters studio. 5th and 6th years stay above, 3rd years are below. Great way to interact between students. Can't we do that in NUS?

The carousel, Florence

The carousel reminds me of happy things. Of childhood memories. Not that the carousel is a familiar object that is placed on the streets in Penang, it's usually in theme parks or places that you need to pay to enter. I saw one or two happy adults riding away on the plastic ponies. Story books and Mary Poppins filled my mind quickly the minute I saw this. There's something just so magical about spinning lights, prancing horses and the music.

Bongiorno, Firenze!

In the duomoHere he is, the genius Brunelleschi, erected facing his masterpiece
Walking up a narrow stairway, up to the cupola. It was a feat!
The Medici Chapel. It's absolutely extravagant inside. Saw Michelangelo's Dawn and Dusk/Night and Day statues
Ponte Vecchio... looks like a storybook place
Outside the Uffizi. I really love this plazza
Night view of the plaza. All the beautiful sculptures...

When in Italy, never ever miss the cappucino. It's a crime

On a long walk up and down on the other side of the river

The Duomo dominating the skyline, the tallest building in Florence

A replica of the statue of David, at Plazza Michelangelo

Night, at Plazza Santa Croche

A fountain at another amazing Plaza, with all the columns facing the square done by Brunelleschi

Counting down my weekends...

Grabbed the opporutunity on Saturday to take some pictures. I'm hardly around at home in the afternoon and it's hard to see clear skies and the sun nowadays. A perfect Saturday. Too bad Sunday was rainy and gloomy
My humble abode

The fire's on more frequently nowadays as the days get shorter and the air gets colder

Really enjoyed baking. I've never had to prepare for so many people before. I guess it's a good way to learn!
Had some friends over for Sunday Lunch. Perfect day in the company of family and friends.

A contrast to the skies the day before. We went for a long walk. Hmm, nah, it wasn't that long. Wished it was clearer. This weather just makes one melancholic...

Random series of events

Thought I'd put up more images. I have loads more, mind you. Too many in fact. I'll probably put up pictures of Florence and Pisa next or else I'll have too many backdated posts. In fact, I realized I have not put up the other half of my trip round Europe yet. Anyway, we're all rushing to complete the project and everyone's gaining momentum finally! Was so worried by our lackadaisical attitude in Florence that I thought we were done for. Other groups seem to have progressed a lot by now, with banners put up, charts drawn, concept skecthes scribbled, site models in progress... time for us to step on the pedal! For those back in NUS, don't lose hope! FYP, submission, exams and what-nots, I pray that you all will prevail in the end. Drool at the pictures of local dishes below if you like or need to but don't expect me to cook them in the future! Somewhere up there, on the Mountain of Fire, lies a campsite called Camping Il Sergente. We were based there for nearly 2 weeks.
Buchatinni with Momma's homemade pesto sauce. Wicked!

The view from the campsite
Some flora by the lake and my groupmates skipping stones below. This reminds me of the poem The Walrus and the Carpenter, except that these are barnacles and not oysters.
Meeting with the Council of Barberino
Having a meeting with the Mayor (the Silver Fox as they call him) and the Deputy Mayor of Culture, Anna, explaining the exhibition to us. She's really sweet. We then headed back to our campsite for a feast with the mayor. Fine Italian food rocks!
The dinner party with some locals from the council and the lake committee. I somehow ended up sitting next to the Mayor. Man, it was stressful especially since he spoke little or no English, I basically didn't know what to say to him and had to get Amelia to translate most of the time. How does one converse witha politician? Hmm. Need to brush up on that.
'Chiki', which is equivalent to China's perssimon but they have it really ripe here. The mayor asked the chef to show us the fruit and let us taste it when they failed to explain what it was and we failed to understand. Haha. It was used to make the sauce for cooked cream dessert below. The chocolate cup with chocolate liquor was fantastic!
Lots of fine Red Wine and frizzy water. Panna water is produced about 500m from here.

Nothing beats a cup of Italian expresso after dinner, made by Momma.
That's the most potent glass of homemade Lemon Cream Liquor that I've ever tasted. Bene !
Dinner table scribbles. When you can't speak the language, draw! Some of zq's masterpiece on the table mat. Although Singapore's much smaller than Mugello, the population's 8 times that of Mugello. I can't imagine being an Italian and living in Singapore!
