According to legend, Sevilla was founded by Hercules and its origins are linked with the Tartessian civilisation. It was called Hispalis under the Romans and Isbiliya with the Moors. Its high point in its history was following the discovery of America. Seville's history runs deep. It was conquered by Romans, Muslims and Christians.The conquest of the new world made Seville one of the richest cities in Spain. It was one of the most active trading ports in the Iberian peninsula.
Walk to the Royal Mudéjar palace known as the Alcazar with marvellous gardens. An excellent example of Moorish architecture, somewhat like The Alhambra.
The Seville Cathedral, and the Giralda Tower. Seville's Cathedral occupies the site of a great mosque in the late 12th century. Later, Christian architects added the extra dimension of height. Its central nave rises to an awesome 42 metres.
The tomb of Christopher Columbus
Zara, for the shopaholics. 4 floors of shopping, the fashion here is so much better than what we get back home. PLUS, it's cheaper. Sadly, I didn't do any shopping.
Somebody would know this bridge very well. It's by the famous Calatrava.
As usual, we never have time for cultural perfomances. Sigh. This the closest I could get of a flamenco dancer. The temperature was 39degC. It was crazily hot. I even felt like having a siesta with the rest of the Spaniards. Zzz...
